THE CHALLENGE
The Resource Renewal Institute’s Forces of Nature website had gone offline, leaving a unique collection of interviews with influential environmental leaders inaccessible to the public.
Although the original website no longer existed, the organization had screenshots and documentation showing how it had functioned. They wanted to faithfully recreate the site while preserving its original purpose: providing public access to an extensive archive of environmental knowledge for future generations.
The challenge was to reconstruct not only the site’s visual identity, but also the organization and functionality behind a large, searchable collection of interviews, videos, and educational resources.
MY ROLE
I recreated the website from archived materials, rebuilding both its appearance and its functionality. Working closely with the Resource Renewal Institute, I:
Reconstructed the original website design.
Developed an advanced search system that allows visitors to search content by environmental leader, area of expertise, environmental topic, and keyword.
Created a dynamic homepage featuring a rotating selection of interviews and videos.
Preserved the visual identity and character of the original site while modernizing its technical implementation.
THE OUTCOME
The project restored public access to an important collection of environmental history that might otherwise have been lost.
The rebuilt website now serves as a searchable digital archive, making decades of environmental knowledge available to researchers, educators, students, and the public. By carefully recreating both the design and functionality of the original site, the organization was able to preserve an important legacy while providing a reliable platform for future use.
The project demonstrates my ability to reconstruct complex digital resources, organize large bodies of information, and balance preservation with modern usability and technical implementation.
